Mack calls on UAW chief to resign

Rep. Connie Mack is getting pretty good at calling for people’s heads.

The Florida Republican was among the first to call for Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner to resign, right as the AIG bonus controversy was hitting a fever pitch.

Geithner did not take Mack’s advice — and seems to have recovered his political footing.

On Wednesday, Mack was out in front of the congressional herd in calling for United Auto Workers chief Ron Gettelfinger to resign. Mack says the UAW is just as responsible for the demise of the U.S. auto industry because it has threatened strikes and created burdensome labor costs.

“If President Obama is willing to fire the CEO of General Motors because of his failures, then he should be evenhanded in demanding Ron Gettelfinger’s resignation for his equally egregious failures,” Mack said.

Mack’s advice is so far being ignored by both the UAW and the Obama administration.
